In 1951, domestically created denim became available in Japan, but its quality was relatively poor compared to the American jeans that Mr. Tsunemi admired so much. Mr. Tsunemi grew tired of having to repair or tailor used and beat-up jeans from the US to sell to his customers. He wanted to create something new and unique to sell. And so the first real Japanese jeans company was created. Edwin now makes their own heavy-weight ring-spun denim for their garments. They also hand dye, carefully age, and innovate designs for all of their denim products. Mr. Tsunemi’s vision for an independent and craftsmanship-centric denim company was realized.
